Make a Short Film Two-Day Intensive
This course is an exclusive education experience, based upon demand from its
students. In one weekend this intensive workshop will take you from script
to screen. Students learn by doing. Write and shoot a short film using in-camera
editing.
Saturday Session: Screenwriter Patrick Sheridan, working with time, place, and character limitations, will focus on being resourceful, and finding the “aha” moment that quickly moves a short film along. Discuss the basic structure of a script and ways to use experience for life’s writing assignments! The end result will be a class inspired five-minute script, ready for action the following day.
Sunday Session: Director Michael Conti will use the previous day’s efforts and help devise a storyboard, block out scenes, and direct using only in-camera editing. With a digital video camera (for the class to share), Michael will demonstrate how it works, highlighting in-camera editing and other techniques. After a break, production starts! A professional lighting kit will be available. Learn basics of using both natural and artificial light. Everyone will get to try several roles, including writing, directing, acting, lighting, and shooting. Invite friends and family to view the completed short film Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Special Note: While students would get the most out of the two-day intensive, it is not a requirement to sign-up for both days. Either way, students are welcome at Sunday’s screening.
What Students are saying:
Click for examples of projects completed by students. Each short was done with in-camera editing only, and didn't involve any post production (except for titles and end credits)
Michael also offers individualized classes, so please ask if you are interested in a gift certificate for someone else, or even yourself. Let Conti help bring out the filmmaker in you! Boulder Digital Arts has also been a home for classes in Boulder, and provided the course in 2005 and in 2006.
